DESCRIPTION:Caty Pilachowski will speak to us about the two solar eclipses coming soon to Bloomington – the partial eclipse on Saturday\, Oct. 14\, and the total solar eclipse on Monday\, April 8\, 2024.  Caty joined the IU faculty in 2001 as the Daniel Kirkwood Chair in Astronomy.  Her research focuses on the stellar populations and chemical evolution of the Milky Way galaxy.  She is currently a Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Astronomy.

SUMMARY:JT Warring - Rotary Myanmar Water Project
DESCRIPTION:J.T. Warring is a member of the Rotary Club of Los Angeles (LA5) and Founder/CEO of the Rotary Myanmar Water Management Systems Project.Through the Myanmar water management systems project\, Rotarians help residents overcome water quality problems ranging from chemical pollutants to waste from other villages that can cause dysentery\, cholera and other types of sickness and death.The Rotary Myanmar Water Management Systems Project began in 2005\, founded by then 30-year Rotarian J.T. Warring in 2005. \nJ.T.\, a native of Bloomington\, Indiana\, had first led a Rotary team in March 2005\, to document on video the devastation wrought throughout many Asian countries on Boxing Day\, 2004\, at a cost of 270\,000 human lives. \nTheir onsite filming resulted in a documentary watched in Rotary called\, “Aftermath of a Tsunami.” \nIn connection with that mission\, he visited Myanmar that Spring\, was introduced to the need for clean water for people\, and in 2006\, founded the current Project. \nToday\, Rotarians have completed more than 70 complete Water Management Systems in Myanmar. \nIn recent years\, COVID and civil unrest have prevented J.T. and the team from visiting Myanmar. \nJ.T. recently returned from a 45-day trip to Myanmar and other East Asian countries\, and he’ll share his findings with us.

DESCRIPTION:The Terre Haute South Rotary assembled a team in 2021 with the goal of bringing the Department of Defense program Innovative Readiness Training to the Wabash Valley.  Two years later over 120 military members from around the country arrived in Terre Haute for Operation Hoosier Care.\n\nIRT Hoosier Care\, which was led by the Indiana Air National Guard’s 181st Intelligence Wing under the leadership of Air Force Lt. Col. Jennifer McKay\, operated the no-cost healthcare clinic with the twin goals of providing hands-on training for service members and affording no-cost services for the public.

DESCRIPTION:Jillian Rich is a successful business owner and dog trainer based in Bloomington\, Indiana. She opened Mannered Mutts Training\, a dog training business\, in 2018 after graduating from the Tom Rose School for Professional Dog Trainers. In addition to her thriving business\, Jillian is also the founder and executive director of Mannered Mutts Rescue\, a non-profit dog rescue organization that focuses on training. \nJillian has been married to her high school sweetheart\, Casey Rich\, since 2016. The couple welcomed their daughter Lorelai in October 2022 and currently live in Bloomington with their three dogs\, Dixie\, Phoebe\, and Felix. \nIn her free time\, Jillian enjoys staying active and is a member of Cross Fit Bloomington and takes ballroom dancing classes with her wife at Arthur Murray Dance. She has also been a vegan since 2017. Jillian also competes in dock diving at a national level with her dog Dixie. In 2020 and 2022\, Dixie was the top in her breed for North American Diving Dogs. In 2021\, Jillian and Dixie were contestants on Season 3 of America’s Top Dog on A&E. \nBefore starting her own business and family\, Jillian graduated from The University of Tampa in 2017 where she studied classical voice. She was born in Sarasota\, Florida and has always had a passion for animals\, particularly dogs. With her strong education and training background\, Jillian has been able to build a successful career helping both dogs and their owners.
